about caitlin chadwick studios

After the birth of her daughter, Wyatt Rose, in 2011, Caitlin realized that she needed to make some changes in her life. Joanne, a friend since her late teens, convinced her that she should take a second look at her first passion. "She sucked me back in, and I haven't looked back."
They opened up their first studio in May, 2013.

"Film was easier, in a way. You just shoot and that was it. With digital, I feel like I'm always on the computer," Caitlin says. "I look at photography like I look at my relationships. I'm very cosmopolitan and embrace technology. I'm not a Luddite. But I'm also very into tradition."

That philosophy has a heavy influence on the way she takes pictures and styles herself as an artist. While the birth of her daughter has made her style more light and fun, Caitlin's still really into a good, moody black-and-white. "I love capturing a great moment more than a perfectly executed photo," she says.

has had a camera up to her eye for just about as long as she can remember. "My mother shared her passion (for photography) with me. She loved taking pictures, documenting my entire childhood," she says.

She and her Pentax 35mm traveled through high school together, where she taught others to use the dark room.
But after high school, Caitlin didn't feel like her hobby could add up to a career. "I just thought, 'Who makes money as a photog?' and I didn't want to be just another starving artist." So she went through a number of careers, from Starbucks barista to liquor-slinging bartender. But she always managed to carry her passion for photography with her. While working as a carpenter, she would take pictures of her work -- and she realized they were actually pretty good!
